I am a recent graduate that is a hard worker and has a strong desire to prove myself on post graduate work.
I will complete my PhD in Biological and Veterinary Sciences from Murdoch University (Perth, Western Australia) in 2012.
I obtained a Masters degree in Animal Science from Michigan State University (East Lansing, Michigan, USA) in 2002.
My professional interests include sustainable agriculture, wildlife conservation, biology, environmental impact assessment, taxonomy, ecosystem services, biogeography, and zoology.
Award-winning, dynamic Molecular Biologist with proven success in gene expression profiling, genomics and proteomics. International article writer and German native speaker. I hold a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology which I got from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. I graduated in Human Biology from the University of Marburg, Germany. Acted as referee for the peer-reviewed journals PLoS One, Current Proteomics and I am listed as a reviewer for the journal Brain and the Journal of Neurochemistry. Experienced in the entire publication process from writing manuscripts until their acceptance by scientific journals. I worked at the interface of basic science and clinical research enabling me to understand the challenges and demands of both areas. Directed a team of two technicians and one chemical engineer in cell culture, in vitro analyses and gene expression profiling. Designed and developed wet-lab protocols. Established cell-based drug-testing. Core competencies: Molecular biology, gene expression profiling (DNA-microarrays), genomics, Real-Time PCR, RNA interference, proteomics, mass spectrometry, peptide sequencing, signal transduction, drug screening, cytotoxicity assays, computational data analysis, protein biochemistry, neuroscience, tumor biology, immunofluorescence microscopy, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry and cell culture. Great interest in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), systems biology, epigenetics, stem cell research, steroid hormones and receptors, drug and biomarker discovery, etc. References: Uhrig et al., “New Alzheimer Amyloid β Responsive Genes Identified in Human Neuroblastoma Cells by Hierarchical Clustering”, PLoS One, Aug. 2009 and Uhrig et al., “Upregulation of CRABP1 in human neuroblastoma cells overproducing the Alzheimer-typical Aβ42 reduces their differentiation potential” BMC Medicine, Dec. 2008.
I grew up in Camberley, Surrey, UK. My B.Sc. was in Physics with Geophysics at the University of Bath, my Ph.d. was in Scanning Auger Microscopy at the University of York. I have worked at the synchrotron at Daresbury Laboratory with photoemission (spin polarised and spin integrated). I have written Monte Carlo programs to simulate electron trajectories in metals and have received prizes for my work. (Cosslett prize from the Microanalytical Society and 'Science' prize from the UK Surface Analysis Forum).
I am currently working for a Seismic Survey data processing company.
My computer languages are C/C++, Matlab, FORTRAN. I have used Qt, Matlab, Java and C++ to create GUI components.
Born in Ajmer, Rajasthan, I have lived across a number of cities in India - Udaipur, Gandhinagar, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Chittorgarh. Have done my Bachelors in Engineering in "Electronic Instrumentation & Control Systems" from Engineering College, Bikaner. Have a vast experience in Electrical & Instrumentation - Operations & Maintenance, and Projects. Presently, associated with Jordan Phosphate Mines PLC.
I completed a PhD in Physics in April 2011. My thesis was concerned with novel lithographic fabrication of nanostructures and surface analysis of these structures. This work was in response to the demand for smaller features in silicon chip design. I published 4
papers from my thesis work.
The Australian Attosecond Science Facility at Griffith University employed me since graduation as a Postdoctoral Fellow. In this role, I investigated the interaction of ultra-fast IR laser pulses with various atomic and molecular systems and in particular high-harmonic
generation. The over-arching goal of our group was to produce a tabletop coherent x-ray source for medical imaging. This is a departure from my thesis topic and testifies to my ability to transfer skills and to adapt to new challenges. My excellent planning and attention to detail has propagated to the new experiments and has yielded results in the form of an international collaboration and subsequent journal publications.
My primary goal is to establish a research career within the framework of an environmentally conscious and ethical scientific community that encourages collaboration among disciplines. I am interested in the application of physics to projects that will promote sustainability and enhance the lives of the community-at-large.
As a physicist, I am motivated to apply my unique problem solving skills to any challenge. I possess mature management and interpersonal skills and a keen interest in taking ideas from conception through to innovative real-life applications.
My research interests include: Lasers and optical engineering. Experimental ultra-fast laser interactions with matter, atomic and
molecular physics and coherent x-ray generation.
